Kandla Port was formed soon after independence to make up the loss of Karachi to Pakistan. It is a tidal port and is situated at the eastern end of the Rann of Kachchh. Visakhapatnam Port is located in Andhra Pradesh between Chennai and Kolkata port. It is one among the major 13 ports of India. It was initiated on December 19, 1933, by Lord Willingdon. This port manages around 1.2 lakh tonnes of cargo every year. The port has 3 main harbours: Outer, Inner, and Fishing harbour. The port handles with the trade of iron ore, pellets, coal, alumina and oil. The port is modernised by 2016-2017 with an investment of Rs.13 crore.
Chennai Port, Chennai, India:
The Chennai port is named as Madras port is the second largest and 3rd oldest port in India, started its operations in 1881. The main reason for its stability is the Tamilnadu’s main port. The turn over is increased from 0.5 million to 100 million. It may further expand its handling to 140 million in the near future.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India:
Jawaharlal Nehru Port is well-known as Nhava Sheva is the largest container port in whole India which is located in the east of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
