Kandla Port, Gujarath, India

Kandla Port was formed soon after independence to make up the loss of Karachi to Pakistan. It is a tidal port and is situated at the eastern end of the Rann of Kachchh. It handles the exports and imports for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat. It handles crude oil, petroleum products, cotton, fertilizers, food grains, cement an many more which is located at 90 km from the Gulf of Kutch, Gujarat in a place called the Kandla creek. Today, the Kandla port is one of the highest profit earning port of India and the centre for exporting grains and importing oil.

Visakhapatnam Port is located in Andhra Pradesh between Chennai and Kolkata port. It is one among the major 13 ports of India. It was initiated on December 19, 1933, by Lord Willingdon. This port manages around 1.2 lakh tonnes of cargo every year. The port has 3 main harbours: Outer, Inner, and Fishing harbour. The port handles with the trade of iron ore, pellets, coal, alumina and oil. The port is modernised by 2016-2017 with an investment of Rs.13 crore.

Chennai Port, Chennai, India

The Chennai Port is named as Madras port is the second largest and 3rd oldest port in India, started its operations in 1881. The main reason for its stability is the Tamilnadu’s main port. The turn over is increased from 0.5 million to 100 million. It may further expand its handling to 140 million in the near future.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India:

Jawahar Nehru Port is well-known as Nhava Sheva is the largest container port in whole India which is located in the east of Mumbai, Maharashtra. This port was built in may 26, 1989, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port is completely controlled by the Indian Government. The port handles 56% of the total containers and is one of the top 30 ports in India. Mormugao Port, Goa, India:

Goa is a tourist attraction in India and hence the need for a port to make Goa flourish more through its trading affairs. Mormugao is a port located in Goa and is plays an important role in its trading. It was bestowed the status of a major port in 1963 and are the leading iron ore exporters of India exporting a total of 50.02 million tonnes of iron ore every year. Four new harbours are being made in the Vasco Bay to handle container traffic and cargo.

Paradip port is the deepwater port that is situated on the coast of Orrisa. The of the port allows managing heavy and bulk containers. This port mainly deals with iron-ore and coal. The Cochin port rests in between two islands namely Willingdon and Vallarpadam. It mainly exports tea, coffee and spices while it exports mineral oil and chemical fertilizers. It also a centre for shipbuilding. In this port, the imports always exceed the exports.
